The Australian Greens would
~ ensure that the ABC and SBS are adequately funded and able to entertain, inform and educate the Australian people free from political and corporate manipulation.

~ ensure that the ABC is funded to broadcast at a standard of excellence throughout Australia and overseas.

~ increase triennial funding of the ABC to a level which enables it, as the national broadcaster, to:
· be at the forefront of all forms of broadcasting
· extend transmission of ABC national radio services to all country Australians
· restore full, unrestricted access to Radio Australia of short-wave transmission facilities
· develop new technologies and fully utilise new media.

~ ensure that the ABC and SBS have sufficient resources to:
· produce high quality drama, films and multimedia projects
· maintain high quality and comprehensive coverage of the arts in Australia and the region.

~ introduce regulations to ensure that commercial stations increase their Australian content and target specific groups, including young, older and Indigenous Australians in discussion of their work.

~ support community radio and TV stations, and enable them to give a high profile to local arts activities.

~ re-write guidelines to ensure increased local content in drama, film music and other art forms featured in radio, TV, film and all new media.
