Most Australians think the ABC should be better funded

A survey conducted by Newspoll over the weekend of 9-11 February 2001, reported in The Australian on 16 February 2001 found that most of those surveyed believed that the ABC should receive more government funding.

60% of respondents said the ABC should receive more.

Only 2% said the ABC should receive less.

There was an interesting figure for Mr Howard and Senator Alston.  Fifty percent of Coalition voters said that the ABC should receive more funding.  Eighty percent of Coalition voters said that the ABC was doing a good job with news and entertainment.  A majority of Coaliton voters said that the ABC was not biased against the Coalition.

Note: Newspoll is a well established public opion poll company, owned by one of Rupert Murdoch's  companies.
